A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… There was something called Flash. All of a sudden the web whizzed and popped and moved about disconcertingly in strange and occasionally beautiful ways.

My great love of Flash was always timeline animation. I was able to create stop frame and tweened movement from drawings, photos and vector art. It was a revolution because normally you needed college, or professional access to the necessary equipment. Now, I could have a cup of tea, cat on my lap and get on with it whenever I felt like it.

Flash still exists of course. It is annoyingly and unnecessarily ubiquitous for web movie players. It got a bit convoluted around the time the MX version came out. It just seemed to need more and more coding, and new ways of coding 0 and I just wanted to get on with the creative stuff.

I think I might do some timeline animation again soon.

I’m going to set up a Flash morgue here, of sites and games and animation I’ve made in the past. Watch this space.

In the meantime, here is the original Artballs site v1.0. Weirdly it has ended up on 3wisemonkeys.org.uk – whenI made my first ever website – back in about… 1998??
